In order to produce high quality content, you need to know who will be looking at it! For example, if you're in the baking industry, it isn't going to be very beneficial to write about automobiles. When you define a target audience, that allows you to create content that will increase engagement with your followers because of the content they expect from you. You also want to consider how various platforms may impact your audience. Someone looking for articles on web design may be interested in reading a lengthy post on facebook, however instagram users may be looking for quick tips and high quality imagery.

Maximizing your posts

Humans consume content in interesting ways, and the statistics supporting that demonstrate that there are various tactics to use when posting content. Posts with an image or a video are twice as effective as those without one. People are visual learners and prefer to consume that form of content. You also want to include backlinks that refer to your website or post to keep followers engaged with your content.

Lengthy posts tend to drive visitors away, and some platforms may cut off your content after a certain character threshold. Here's some optimal post lengths.

• Facebook - 80 characters or less.

• Twitter - 70-100 characters is optimal, however the platform allows up to 280 characters.

• LinkedIn - After around 210 characters, LinkedIn will cut off the content.

• Instagram - 150 characters, but also consider hashtags (5-9 recommended)

Post consistency

Along with the meat of your content, it's also important to not only regularly put out content, but be conscious of your timing as well. Tools such as Hootsuite allow you to schedule posts for optimal times (generally 10am - 4pm Monday through Friday). These tools will not only save you time but allow you to keep your content consistent.
